About Gleann Cottage
Gleann Cottage sleeps four people in interior design heaven, cocooning you against the elements and providing beautiful views over the Cairngorms.
This cottage is right in the middle of Alvie Estate, and staying here means you benefit from all that comes along with that. Firstly, you’re far from any roads, making it a relaxing place to bring pets and children. Then there’s the natural surroundings: fields filled with newly born lambs and calves in spring, woodlands that glow orange and red in autumn, a loch for summer swims. To the rear are rocky hills ready to be explored, while the snow-topped Cairngorms tempt you from across the strath.
Gleann Cottage has been completely overhauled, and from the moment you open the front door, you can feel the care that has been put into every design decision. This lodge feels solid, not least thanks to the thick stone walls that have stood strong against Highland weather for over 100 years. Effort has gone into preserving as many original features as possible, while the décor, furnishings – and the addition of a few carefully placed skylights – has transformed this incredible building into a bright, cosy home for modern living.
Kitchen and living
Downstairs, the atmospheric open-plan dining and kitchen area is flooded with natural light. Perch at the breakfast bar to keep whoever’s cooking company, then slide over to the dining table to enjoy the results. Across the hall, the lounge offers a similar bright, comfy vibe. Can you spot the well disguised TV?
Bedrooms and bathroom
Upstairs is the cottage’s bathroom, a calming space with decorative nods to the house’s heritage – and the best view you’ll ever enjoy while brushing your teeth. The bathroom is flanked by the two bedrooms: one kingsize with exposed oak beams and vaulted ceiling, and a twin (which can be made into a king) in a subtle country style.
Outdoors
It’s hard to leave the joys of the interior behind, but never fear: there are many more to be found right outside. Enjoy a morning coffee and mountain views from the bench at the front, or head to the private courtyard at the rear for a soak in the wood-fired hot tub, a nap on one of the lounge chairs, or to cook up a feast on the barbecue.
Location
Alvie Estate is much more than a traditional sporting estate, so there are activities galore to enjoy on the doorstep of Gleann Cottage. Fly over gorges at the Zip Trek Park, sign up for a red squirrel and deer photography tour, test your aim with clay pigeon shooting or archery, go quad biking or gorge walking, or learn bushcraft skills. And if all that adventure makes you hungry, you’re only 15 minutes from the amenities of Aviemore.

I spent 4 solo nights on a writing break at Gleann Cottage on Alvie Estate, and it was just perfect. So peaceful, with a comfy bed, a quality speaker, and a wood-fired hot tub. I like to cook, and the cottage has absolutely everything you need, including things you wouldn't usually expect, like tupperware for leftovers and a food processor. The view over the Cairngorms is stunning from every room, but I enjoyed it most often from the window seat in the dining room. I felt sad to leave, and would 100% recommend both Seasgair Lodges and the property itself.
We had the most amazing stay at our lodge in the beautiful Alvie estate. Lodge was perfect. Clean and comfortable for our arrival. Every effort was made by the team to make our stay memorable. Thank you, we will be staying with you again and recommending these lovely lodges to friends and family.
Having just spent Christmas at Gleann cottage I cannot recommend it more highly. Beautifully decorated, kitchen well equipped for cooking Christmas lunch. Big enough for two couples and very dog friendly with a wrap around fully enclosed garden. Plenty of logs for the fire and hot tub, they were needed! Hot tub was delightful to stargaze from. The guidebook sent prior to our stay as very helpful. Useful bigger fridge / freezer outside in the side building, needed for the turkey! Walking around the estate was enjoyable and we even visited the zip park for an afternoon. We saw baby deer and hares right outside the cottage. Nearby to bigger towns but feels secluded and peaceful.
Just spent a lovely week at Gleann Cottage on the Alvie Estate, another beautiful Seasgair cottage: cosy, clean and comfortable. What a peaceful location but with tons to do round about. The cottage was perfect, with lots of lovely touches of luxury. Fab.
