Cray House

Perched in Highland Perthshire on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park is Cray House and Estate, a 10-bedroom rural refuge set among twenty acres of land. Originally built in Georgian times as a stately shooting lodge, the property has since undergone tasteful renovations, but the remaining features, beautiful antiques and artwork hint at the house’s rich history. 

Living

A curved staircase greets you as you step into the property’s impressive entrance hall. Immediately to your left sits the main lounge. With an open fire, baby grand piano and guitar, it’s perfect for both post-prandial entertainment and rejuvenating rest days curled up with a book. 

But this is just one of the property’s many reception rooms in which to relax. A den featuring Sky TV, toys, a Nintendo Wii and more will even keep the little ones entertained — that is when they’re not busy playing in the characterful hallways across the house’s multiple floors.

Kitchen and dining

When you’re ready to start the day, wander downstairs to the smell of a Scottish cooked breakfast and coffee. Fitted with an Aga and plenty of worktop space, the modern-meets-country-style kitchen is a culinary haven. Guests can make memories from multiple dining spots, including the breakfast table and bench in the kitchen or the dining room’s banquet table, which makes every meal feel ceremonious. In the summer months, opt for the outdoor seating area – ideal for BBQ cook-ups – where guests can indulge in some sunshine-snoozing on the plush rattan sofa-style seating.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

From your choice of quaintly decorated super king, double, twin and single bedrooms, enjoy a morning cuppa in bed while you bask in the light that dances through the large windows. It’s the perfect vantage point from which to absorb the serenity of the surrounding scenery, including the lodge’s very own trout loch, which guests can access via a row boat.

Outdoors

Outside, you’ll also find expansive open lawns, a putting area, hot tub and sauna. You will also find the children’s playpark of dreams. And we mean it: featuring two swing sets, a seesaw, a trampoline and an adventure tower, your littlest group members will be beaming when they first set eyes on it.

Location

Some of the region’s activity hotspots are just a stone’s throw away, including salmon fishing on the River Shee, hikes up Mount Blair and the Angus Glens, and snow days at Glenshee Ski Resort, just 18 miles away. You’re also perfectly located for day trips to explore some of Scotland’s most iconic locations, such as historic Edinburgh (a 1.5-hour drive), Loch Lomond (2.25 hours), and Glencoe (2.5 hours).
