Nethy Station

All aboard, for what will be an unforgettable holiday in a one of a kind house! Nethy Station a beautifully renovated 8 sleeper lodge, is a rather brilliant conversion of what was the old village station, originally built in 1853 and decommissioned in 1963. Lovingly restored back to life in 2020, many original features remain, such as the beautiful coloured windows at the front. The builders even discovered tickets and timetables as they were renovating!

Today this unique and comfortable self catering lodge, is packed with fascinating history everywhere you look. As well as the endearing original features (including the old ticket hatch which is now a window!), old railway maps and photographs of the station in its heyday add to its captivating charm.

Living

The open plan living room and kitchen was originally the Station Master’s office, and retains its wonderful stone hearth, now fitted with a modern cosy wood burning stove. The kitchen is sleek and efficient with all the contemporary appliances required by any keen cook.

Dining

The dining area and corridor leading to the bedrooms were previously the Waiting Room and the Ladies’ Waiting Room, but have now been opened up to create a light and bright space, with the same impressively high ceilings as the rest of the house. On a warm evening you can throw open the doors to what was previously the station platform. Here generations of travellers would have alighted to enjoy the fresh Highland air, in the days when holidays to Scotland by rail were the height of fashion – thanks to Queen Victoria. You can also eat outside of course or play table tennis under the platform awning, from where you can see south across the River Nethy towards the Spey.

Bedrooms and bathrooms  

All the bedrooms lead off the main corridor – a twin room, the main bedroom with kingsize bed and ensuite shower room, another twin room with ensuite shower and a beautiful original fireplace, and lastly a cosy little bunk bed room. Towards the back of the house is a large shower room, as well as a very useful utility room with a washing machine and drying space, plus there’s a drying green at the back of the house too.

Location

Nethy Station, this beautifully renovated 8 sleeper lodge lodge, lies on the north-west edge of the village, and is convenient for everything you’ll need in the village centre. It’s only a few minutes walk from popular Nethy House, a gorgeous dog-friendly cafe which serves delicious home-cooked food and freshly ground coffee. Just across the road is the grocery shop, and the Nethy Bridge Hotel with restaurant and bar. The lodge is also a short stroll along from Balliefurth Farm Shop, an award-winning family-run butcher and deli.
